Overview
How to Test a Prophecy Claim
These questions do not rule out divine foreknowledge. They prevent a later community from treating every borrowed phrase as proof. Islam welcomes genuine prophecy because all true prophets came from God, while insisting that interpretation must not be used to make a human messenger into an object of worship.
interpretation
First Ask About the Original Setting
This approach protects context, but it need not deny later patterns. A passage may first speak about an Israelite king or a persecuted community and later be applied to another event. The later application should be identified as typology or rereading rather than quietly presented as the only possible original meaning.
interpretation
Be Cautious With Prophecy Charts
A responsible claim should explain why the symbols point to one historical sequence rather than many possible sequences. Confidence should match the clarity of the text.
interpretation
Distinguish Clear Hope From Speculation
Islam likewise teaches resurrection and judgment while discouraging date-setting. Future prophecy should lead to repentance and readiness, not sensational predictions that repeatedly fail.

Messianic Texts Need Context
This does not make the Christian case dishonest. It means the case must show why its reading is stronger. It also means that titles such as 'son,' 'lord,' or 'son of man' must be read according to biblical usage; they cannot automatically prove that the Messiah is the one God.
Key passage
Bible
But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, being small among the clans of Judah, out of you one will come out to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings out are from of old, from ancient times.

Why Serious Readers Disagree
The disagreement is not solved by counting scholars or dismissing another faith. It is solved by examining the text and then asking which claimed revelation provides the most coherent account of God, prophecy, and history.

The Quran as the Final Criterion
That criterion matters when interpretations conflict. A reading that turns a prophetic servant into the Creator, makes one person bear another's moral guilt, or contradicts clear monotheism cannot be accepted merely because a later text applies an older phrase to Jesus. The Quran honors Jesus without compromising the worship of God alone. It also reports Jesus announcing a messenger after him named Ahmad (61:6), giving Muslims a revealed basis for recognizing Muhammad within the prophetic story.
Key passage
Quran
And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad." But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, "This is obvious magic."

What a Reliable Case Should Show
This standard protects both faith and reason. Genuine revelation does not need exaggeration, and Islam's case is strongest when disputed proof texts are treated honestly.
