Understanding Who Is Allah?
Allah is the Arabic name for the one Creator worshipped in Islam: eternal, incomparable, merciful, and without partner or offspring. Muslims know Him through the names and attributes He reveals while holding that nothing in creation is like Him.

Surah Al-Ikhlas, chapter 112 of the Quran, is Islam's shortest complete summary of who God is. Its four verses affirm that Allah is one and the eternal refuge, then deny that He begets, is born, or has any equivalent. Muslims recite this chapter often because it draws a clear boundary between the Creator and everything created.
This is more than the claim that only one deity exists. Tawhid means that no created being shares Allah's rule, receives a portion of worship, or possesses His unique perfection. Prophets are honored servants and messengers, not parts of God. Angels carry out divine commands, but they are created. The Beautiful Names
The Quran says that the most beautiful names belong to Allah. Quran 59:22, for example, calls Him the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Entirely Merciful, and the Especially Merciful. The next two verses in the same passage include names expressing sovereignty, purity, protection, might, creation, and wisdom.
Muslims commonly speak of the ninety-nine names because the Prophet Muhammad said that Allah has ninety-nine names and that whoever knows them will enter Paradise (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736). Scholars explain that knowing or enumerating them is not merely memorizing a list. It includes learning what the names mean, calling upon Allah by them, and letting that knowledge shape character and worship. A believer who knows Allah as the Merciful hopes in His mercy; one who knows Him as the All-Knowing remembers that no hidden act or private grief escapes Him.
The famous number does not mean that God can be reduced to ninety-nine labels or that every later printed list has the same status as the Quran. Islam teaches that Allah is completely unlike creation. He is not contained by the universe, dependent on matter, limited by a body, or captured by an image. His knowledge does not resemble human learning, His life does not depend on breath or food, and His power is not borrowed from anything else.

A beginner does not need those detailed debates in order to understand the shared belief: Allah's revealed names are true, Allah is one, nothing resembles Him, and no picture or created form can represent Him.

Knowing Allah Through Worship
In Islam, learning about Allah is meant to change how a person lives. If He alone creates and provides, gratitude belongs first to Him.
