The Council of Nicaea (325 CE)

The Council of Nicaea in 325 CE did not choose the biblical canon or invent belief in Jesus' divinity. It addressed an existing dispute about how the Son relates to the Father and adopted the term homoousios, 'of the same essence,' with imperial support from Constantine. The council shows that the final technical language of the Trinity emerged through post-Jesus debate, while Islam offers the simpler prophetic creed that God is one and has no partner.
